CHURCH OF SOUTH INDIA - MADURAI - RAMNAD DIOCESE

Department of Communication

REACHING THE UNREACHED FOR CHRIST THROUGH

COMMUNUCATION AND TECHNOLOGY

Our communication department of C.S.I. DIOCESE OF MADURAI AND RAMNAD is formed and committed to energizing “The whole church to take the gospel to the whole world” with the theme “A new vision, a new heart and a renewed call” with the goal “ To reach the unreached”.

Communicating the gospel in today’s world also needs to be carried out in s holistic way with an evangelistic focus, and a pastoral heart authentically caring for people to be reconciled with God. As Christians, the Lord Jesus has commissioned us to be His communicators. Our task is to communicate the good news about Jesus Christ in any way possible to every human being. This task was given both to the church as a whole and to every Christian, to the craftsman as well as the journalist.

The media was widely used in biblical history. Noah used the Ark, Moses used the Staff, Nehemiah used the city wall, Jesus used mud for healing the blind and God used the rainbow, the dove and the cross. The media has been a symbolic means to signify spiritual meanings in the past.

However, in most of today’s cities and societies, the media becomes the central shaping force and the demise of our cultures and values.  The rise of communication technologies such as the internet and digital media creates new threats, but at the same time, new opportunities for evangelization.Certainly the church needs to examine media and technology as it pertains to world evangelization.

The mission of Christian media people or artists, therefore, is not simply to produce good programmes. Christians should also rekindle the conscience of non-christian media artists to produce good programmes with christian values.

So we in the communication department of our Madurai- Ramnad CSI diocese has come out with the idea of creating a web-page.

A web-page presence for a church, or a diocese or ministry is rapidly becoming as important as other forms of advertising, such as the yellow pages. The web is now used as a church(diocese) – search resource by a majority of local prospects.

Some of the basic and advanced uses of the internet technology for ministry purposes include:

  1. BASIC WEB-PAGE PRESENTATION:

A bare-bones web page, including the church address of all the churches of our diocese, location, photos and other information is fairly simple and inexpensive to create. This can be a basic, static page or pages, which distributes your message or data.

  1. AUDIO CYBERCASTING:

Continued advancements to audio compression technology has made the web an ideal means for conveying digitized audio. While requiring considerable hard drive resources, recordings of sermons and songs can be reproduced with high quality. With advanced bandwidth access, live streaming capabilities of services or presentations are viable.

  1. VIDEO CYBERCASTING:

Digitized video streaming is growing popularly in the web and this is becoming the primary method of video delivery nowadays.

  1. E-MAIL MAILING LISTS:

Communicate with church members by means of an electronic bulletin or newsletter. Many churches in the west are saving money by using this technology exclusively.

  1. CHAT ROOM DIALOGUES / COUNSELING:

By utilizing interactive chat software, web users can conduct real-time dialogues with other individuals or groups. Many ministries and groups are now offering counseling via chat room.

  1. ONLINE CALENDAR / SCHEDULING:

Place your church calendar online, updatable and viewable by all members instantly. Using calendar software to e-mail your members of important dates or reminders.

  1. BULLETIN BOARDS/ ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Place static or interactive announcements online for all to see. Can be edited or changed anytime, anywhere.

  1. ONLINE MEMBER DATABASE:

Member’s addresses or information can be securely placed online for access by each member or leader from anywhere at any time. Members can automatically add or delete updated information or sign up for services. Even donation information or other records can be made readily available.

  1. INTERACTIVE INFORMATION / CONTACT FORMS:

Provide online data collection forms, and/or provide interactive processing and messages. Prayer request forms, and even simple gospel tracts can be designed to be interactive, so that responses are recorded and dispatched to human resources for appropriate follow-up..

  1. 1 VOICE CALL TELEPHONE COMMUNICATIONS:

Broadband internet is becoming a widely used method of transmitting low-cost voice / voice Call telephone (VOIP) communications. While a still evolving technology VOIP provides remarkable, quality voice communications between anyone with high speed internet access.

However, while the internetcontinues to bend and flex during changing times, one thing remains clear. The web’s presence and influence is permanent and long-lasting … and it continues to be one of the most powerful communication vehicles for the Gospel that the church has ever had with overwhelming majority of the world’s population now online, it is the mandate of the 21st century church to use this “WORLD WEB PULPIT” for the great life changing message of Jesus Christ.

We hope that the communication department of our CSI Madurai Ramnad diocese would strive to make our churches to “REACH THE UNREACHED” in a better and meaningful way.
